Great Britain could draw inspiration from Morocco’s Imams training experience, Cameron | MAP

Morocco’s imam training experience could be beneficial for the UK, according to Prime Minister David Cameron:

MAP logoThe United Kingdom could benefit from Morocco’s experience regarding the training of imams (religious leaders), said Prime Minister David Cameron at the British parliament.

Cameron, who was answering a question by conservative deputy Andrew Murrison who stressed Morocco’s leadership in terms of fighting religious extremism and training imams according to the teachings of a moderate Islam, noted that his country could benefit from the Moroccan experience in this field.

Murrison voiced the wish that the UK follows the example of France which signed a cooperation agreement with the Kingdom to train French imams in Morocco according to the Malekite rite which calls for an Islam of moderation and coexistence.

Several African and Arab countries have appealed to Morocco to train their religious leaders on the values of tolerance to counter extremism and the obscurantist ideology, and for this end, HM King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, had inaugurated last March a center called “the Mohammed VI Institute for Training Imams, Murshidins and Murshidats”…[ORIGINAL STORY, SUBSCRIPTION REQUIRED]
