King Mohammed VI meets with Abu Dhabi emissary to boost trade & investment ties
MATIC, MAP (Washington, DC, Nov. 20, 2012) — In a follow up to King Mohammed VI’s visit to the UAE on October 24, 2012 where he met with Gen. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the King hosted Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Affairs Authority and emissary of HH Sheikh Mohammed in Marrakech on November 15, 2012.
Morocco and Abu Dhabi have long had trade and investment ties spanning tourism development, fruit exports, and real estate projects. Morocco is a preferred vacation destination for many Emiratis who have year-round residences in the major cities of the Kingdom. In addition, there are hundreds of Moroccans working in the UAE as skilled artisans and professionals.
The meeting touched on many issues of shared interest, with a focus on opportunities for economic and social cooperation between Morocco and Abu Dhabi.
Given last year’s invitation by the GCC to Morocco, there has been a heightened interest in recruiting highly skilled Moroccans to work in the Emirates. This would provide much needed employment for Moroccans in a very friendly environment while enabling the Emirates to gain from the competencies of Moroccan workers in industrial, security, and military sectors. Among the topics discussed were a review of current real estate and tourism projects, expanding trade ties, and targeting investments in Morocco that would accelerate its national development and meet key employment goals.
King Mohammed reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to the excellent bilateral ties with the UAE and welcomed the Emirate’s readiness and commitment to back Morocco’s development momentum. The Morocco-UAE joint commission for economic development will work to translate further studies into projects and investment opportunities.
