Former AFRICOM Commander Lauds Morocco’s Counterterrorism Efforts | MAP

Former head of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) calls Morocco’s counterterrorism strategy “an authentic approach which is based on the values of tolerance and coexistence”:

MAP logoFormer Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) Gen. William Ward highlighted, on Wednesday in Washington, Morocco’s laudable efforts to fight terrorism and violent extremism, mainly through initiatives promoting the virtues of moderate Islam.

“Morocco made noteworthy efforts to curb the terrorist threat, according to an authentic approach which is based on the values of tolerance and coexistence,” Ward told MAP on the sidelines of a diplomatic forum held at the National Press Club at the US capital under the theme “Counterterrorism fight: teachings drawn from Middle East, North Africa, Sahel and Beyond”.

He added that Morocco reformed the religious field in order to protect and defend the real image of Islam.
